Preliminary task: front cover textual analysis

Front cover Textual Analysis

This magazine cover consists of a colour photograph of a male looking directly into the camera. It’s a medium long shot as you can only see from the head to the waist. The man is holding a few educational books in his hand, signifying that this magazine has a target audience of students in education. The photograph covers most of the front cover and the background is black, to emphasise the image of the man.

His clothing comes across as smart casual; I think this has been chosen carefully to achieve the appropriate target audience. His non verbal communication comes across as very independent and proud to be involved in education, he also seems quite confident as he is looking directly to the camera.

The masthead is a very complex and simple the colours and the name completely compliment the magazine cover; it clearly indicates what the magazine is about. The anchorage used in this cover is used in a sans serif font; it appears the text is very modern and high-tech, once again appealing to the appropriate age group. The vary of font and size on this cover gives the magazine a edgy and modern look.

Induction: Movie poster texture analysis

This image has a denotation of a man standing in front of fire holding a whip. However the connotations of this image shows bravery from the fact he is standing in front of fire, it shows he is fearless and seems adventurous.

The costume he is wearing appears to be quite old fashioned and combat seeming he is again quite adventurous. The prop he has is a whip denoting courageous and daring. It also seems quite historic as most people in this modern time wouldn’t usually carry around a whip. The setting in this poster appears to be in some sort of cave, the skull in the background could imply he is "close to death" from the typical representation of a skull.

The lighting appears to be quite serious, from the fiery reds and oranges, but at the same time, in a strange way it creates a warming atmosphere as the text is the same colour - the anchorage is a sansserrif font which appears to be quite a comic kind which in a sense eases the viewers mind.

The non verbal communication shown in this poster comes across as very stong and stern, you can see this from the direct eye contact which is given and the clenched fist suggesting an action packed film.

Induction: Recreation of a movie magazine front cover.

I found this task quite easy as I have used adobe photoshop before , I was familiar with the tools I had to use which i felt confident about using. I think my recreation outcome was successful as I was able to create a magazine cover which was similar to the original, and clear to read.

I used differnt tools such as the magic wand tool to make the head of the actor appear in front of the text , I also used the colour picker tool to choose the exact same colour on the original. Another tool i used was a drop shadow tool to make the text appear as though it had a shadow behind it.

To begin this process i had 2 images - One image was just the background picture.

And the second image was the magazine cover i had to copy-

Overall I am pleased with my final image because it is very much similar to the original photo , with the same features and compostition.
