Main Task: Profiling Your Audience
LIFTED reader Chester aged 18 is a student in full time education, music has become a huge influence in his life. His Rap/Hip hip-hop music preference has influenced his lifestyle, from the friends he has to the clubs or events he attends. The music he listens to has also influenced the way he dresses to fit the ideal dress code.
He is a fan of a few artists such as: Lil Wayne, Drake and Mac Miller. He has attended many concerts for his favourite artists. He is motivated and driven by the same passion and creativity that has made Hip-Hop the multi-billion dollar culture and business that it is today. He reads music magazines regularly to keep up to date on the latest news and reviews and new concert dates.

Why would you buy the magazine?
- Look of the front cover
- Articles inside
- Intrests in hip-hop.

More questions to give an idea of what to put in the magazine.
With all of the data I have collected, I intend to used the most popular ideas and enforce them on my own magazine.
I decided to name my magazine 'LIFTED' I chose this name not only because was the most popular during my research, but because I thought I was a suitable name for a hip-hop magazine as this particular genre in the music industry is always rising and continuing to strive.
I hope to grab my reader’s attention and appeal to my audience by the following -look of the front cover, colour scheme and cover lines on the front cover.
Main Task: Double Page Spread Textual Analysis

Denotation: This double page spread consists of a main image and two columns of text surrounded by more text above and beneath the columns, the columns of text are neat and in line with each other in the exact same size and font. The main image is of a man wearing a hat and baggy clothes, sitting on an outside table with his hands crossed and not looking at the camera. The background of the image comes across as an urban community.
Left Hand Side: Dominated by the text columns in a black font; although it is plain it is still aesthetically pleasing because it’s not untidy. The location of the image is placed on the right of the pages, with effective consideration of the layout and images.
Mise En Scene:
Lighting: The lighting of the main image is low key as the not artificial lighting has been used.
Setting- The setting of the image is an urban community. This could be an idea that this may be where the subject grew up.
Costume: The subjects costume is a typical rappers approach to fashion- oversized clothing, colossal sized chains and jewellery, baseball caps and tattoos.
Non Verbal Communication: This main image of a man shows a calm atmosphere; his body language suggests almost a humble and sensitive approach from a usual rapper.

Non Verbal Communication: This main image of a man shows a calm atmosphere; his body language suggests almost a humble and sensitive approach from a usual rapper.
Quotes: in this case the quote at the bottom of the page almost sums up the article, it’s the first thing that the reader sees and attracts their attention.
Target Audience- This would be males and females who enjoy listening to this kind of hip-hop/Rap music. They would usually be the age range of about 16- 25 and they are most likely to be in full time education or working in a job.

Font- A sans serif text is used in this double page spread to show that the magazine is again a modern magazine.
Main Task: Front Cover Textual Analysis

Denotation -This magazine cover consists of a colour photograph of a man with tattoos and a lip piercing, standing, seeming to look directly into the camera. The main image is a medium long shot, showing the man standing with his hands in his pockets, the image is not central - it has been placed towards the right of the magazine. Behind the man is the XXL magazine masthead and logo. The colour scheme is red, white, and yellow and black which are all quite bold colours. Altogether there are five cover lines including the main one, which are all different sizes varying.
Masthead - The masthead on this magazine cover instantly stands out; the dominant bold red colour catches the eye as it is mainly the only red used on the cover. The simple text used is sans serif which has more of a modern appeal to it. The background to the photograph is a plain white; however the lighting has been staged in a way in which the subject is made to stand out. The name "XXL" for a magazine may seem strange, however the term extra extra large fits in well to show how successfully large this magazine has become from when it first started.
Character - The cover photograph is 'Lil Wayne' a successful American rapper from New Orleans
Composition- He is posed in a very confident and casual pose his body language is quite relaxed and his clothing is again casual.
Costume- His costume has been chosen to appeal to the right target audience who are possibly most likely to be male. Similar to the modern day clothing worn his costume has a connotation to the present era. Although the background of the image is very plain, his clothing connotes something more - a open and exciting personality.
NVC- His non verbal communication shows he is confident and relaxed from the facial expression he gives and his body language.
Lighting- The lighting in this comes across as artificial, suggesting it has been produced in a studio.
Lighting- The lighting in this comes across as artificial, suggesting it has been produced in a studio.
Cover Lines - The main image relates to the main cover live which says "LIL WAYNE EXCLUSIVE INTREVIEW LARGER THAN LIFE" making reference to his recent release of his album, being at his most successful point in his career and almost unstoppable.
Target Audience- All of these points taken into consideration, the likely target audience would be male and female (mostly male) roughly aged around18-25 having a wide knowledge on hip hop and rap music.
Main Task: Introduction

My name is Cleo Cameron-Borthwick, I am an AS media studies student at Christ the King Sixth Form College. I have been given a task in which I have to create a music magazine, front cover, contents page and a double page spread. The magazine must be based around a particular genre and I have chosen to base my magazine around hip-hop and RNB. Iwill eventually have chosen a colour scheme for the magazine and a name for it assuring they compliment each other. I intend to look at a range of magazines in this genre to fulfil a succesful magazine and take elements from this and turn them into my own.
